Technology and AI at iN Studio
Part 1: Introduction
At iN Studio, we see technology as a partner in design. The tools we adopt and develop are not about replacing creativity, but about unlocking it, making processes more efficient, opening new ways of designing, and empowering our team to deliver exceptional workplace experiences.
Every tool we bring into our practice is carefully tested to ensure it enhances the design process rather than complicating it. We assess risks, measure impact, and always keep the user experience, both for our team and our clients, at the center.
Here are a few ways we’ve been integrating technology into our work:
Accurate space capture with LiDAR scans
Since much of our work involves retrofitting existing offices, where base building information can be incomplete or unreliable, we use LiDAR scans to capture existing conditions with precision. This reduces risk and ensures projects begin on a solid foundation.
Smarter collaboration through BIM and CDEs
Our use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Common Data Environments (CDEs) allows us to collaborate seamlessly across cities and borders. By moving away from paper- or PDF-based reviews and embracing model-based coordination, we can detect clashes early, resolve design issues faster, and reduce costly surprises during construction.
Automation for efficiency and foresight
We’ve also built in-house automation systems that streamline production tasks and strengthen our project management. Our “iN Studio Project Management and Forecasting Toolset,” for example, improves visibility into both short- and long-term workload. It was even nominated for Building Transformations’ Innovation Spotlight Awards.
As artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as large language models (LLMs) and diffusion-based image generators, become mainstream, we’re applying the same thoughtful approach. These tools bring exciting opportunities for ideation, analysis, and visualization, but they also come with risks:
LLMs can confidently provide false or misleading information (“hallucinations”), making validation essential.
Image generation models can produce unpredictable or dream-like results that don’t always align with professional design standards.
Our commitment is to use AI responsibly, balancing creativity with accuracy and control.
“This can be a pull quote if needed...”
This introduction is the first in a three-part series exploring how iN Studio leverages AI in practice:
AI for documents and data
AI for visualization
